Nokia has announced the Nokia Lumia 820, and we've already grabbed a quick hands-on with the device to see what it is like.

The first thing to notice is that it is a lot bigger than the Nokia Lumia 800 and a lot squarer. The screen is noticeably brighter too, while the wireless charging will save you having to worry about plugging in the phone - who needs a cable anyway?

Once you get past that you'll want to start hot swapping the back covers and, like we've seen with the Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 610, we suspect that it will spawn a whole range of fashion-conscious covers just like the halcyon days of Nokia phones.

As for the speed and performance, a quick play shows that you'll be getting a phone that is good enough, in fact more than good enough, for most to enjoy. The much larger 920 will be for power users, but the 820 is for most people. While the design isn't as perhaps as honed as the 920, pulling one of these out is still going to get you noticed at the party.

No word as to when the new Nokia Lumia 820 will be out, but Stephen Elop told Pocket-lint that it will be some time after October, but before Christmas.
