Xiaomi is expanding its reach, launching into the UK in 2018 and looking for international growth. It has booked in a press event at Mobile World Congress in February and that might see the launch of a new flagship - the Xiaomi Mi 9.

A device believed to be the Xiaomi Mi 9 has been spotted in the wild, suggesting that this future flagship will have a three-camera system on the rear rather than the two on the Mi 8. The leak is said to be in the hands of a Xiaomi exec, although there's little to verify what we're actually looking at here.

Previous rumours have suggested that the Xiaomi Mi 9 will use Snapdragon 855, although whether it will be 5G or not remains to be seen. There's likely to be a 6.4-inch AMOLED display and a 48-megapixel camera, along with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

That would suggest that the new Xiaomi phone will adopt some of the features of the Mi 8 Pro - that in-display fingerprint scanner - and looking at the phone in the exec's hand, there's no fingerprint sensor on the rear of that phone. Updated renders from concept artist Ben Geskin on Twitter give us a better idea of what the phone might look like.

Xiaomi has recently launched the Mi Mix 3 - a slider handset - and we know that the company is planning a 5G version of that handset, previously revealing it at the China Mobile event and again at CES 2019; but it is time for a new Xiaomi flagship phone and with the company's expanding international reach, the Xiaomi Mi 9 could be widely available.
