Vodafone has beaten 3 to the finish line and is offering 3G broadband data cards for use on notebook computers.

The Vodafone Mobile Connection 3G broadband (HSDPA) data card is available from 22 June, and offers high-speed connections in Greater London, Glasgow, Sheffiel, Greater Manchester, and Tyneside.

3G broadband achieves peak download speeds of up to 1.4Mbps and upload speeds of up to 384Kbps.

Vodafone has said that full 3G broadband should be available on its entire 3G network by summer 2007.

Users of the new card will also be able to take advantage of high-speed connections in Austria, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain and Hong Kong.

Laptops with Vodafone's new 3G broadband built-in are also available from Dell, Acer, and Lenovo.

Prices for the service aren't cheap, with £25 buying you 250MB of data, and £45 giving you unlimited usage. The cards cost £99 on the Data 250 price plan and £49 on the Data Unlimited price plan.
