Vodafone has announced that it has just shifted its 100,000th iPhone in just over a week since it debuted on the network. For some comparison, Orange sold 30,000 on its first day.

The handset is just over half-way through a development cycle - with another one widely expected in June - it's rather impressive that Vodafone has managed to convince more than 100,000 people to sign up for a 2-year contract in full knowledge that by the time it expires, their handset will be 2.5 years old, or 3.5 if they opt for a 3G, rather than a 3GS.

Vodafone's CEO, Guy Laurence, told Pocket-lint: "The demand from both consumer and business customers has been phenomenal. They want an outstanding phone on an outstanding network and we're delivering that". The jury's still out on the "outstanding network" claim, though Vodafone came second in our recent network testing across London.
