Sony Ericsson has started a global rollout of Android 2.3.3 for its Xperia Arc and Xperia Play smartphones. The update promises several improvements and fixes, and brings the manufacturer's proprietary "Facebook Inside Xperia" feature to the handsets.

The update is already available for a few different markets and "kits" but the company is widening its rollout to territories including the UK at the end of this week, beginning of next.

Included with other small bug fixes are improved battery performance, general software stability, Wi-Fi stability, better HD Video recording performance on the Xperia Arc, and greater touch screen responsiveness.

It will be available to be installed over-the-air from a handset itself, or through PC-Companion.

Facebook Inside Xperia, the major new addition, allows users to share, connect and like on the social networking site in a smoother, more integrated way than before. It works alongside both TimeScape and the Facebook for Android application, and is similar to the software that has been previously announced to come with the Xperia mini and mini pro handsets.

More information on the Android 2.3.3 and its time frame is available on the Sony Ericsson blog.
