Samsung has updated its Galaxy Express Android smartphone with some extra software features and 4G compatibility and is releasing the new version in the UK from tomorrow, 23 October.

The Samsung Galaxy Express 2 LTE has a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and 1.5GB of RAM, so expect it to be in the "affordable" category. The rear-facing camera is 5-megapixels with an LED flash, while the front in 0.3-megapixels.

Its 4.5-inch TFT LCD screen has a resolution of 960 x 540 and it is capable of recording 720p video at 30 frames per second.

Pre-installed Samsung services and features include Smart Stay, Group Play, Motion UX, S Travel, StoryAlbum and S Translator. Connectivity comes in Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and NFC flavours, with a micro USB port for good measure (and charging).

There is 8GB of built-in storage and a microSD card slot can be used to increase that by up to a further 64GB.

Measurements are 132.4 x 65.7 x 9.8mm and the battery is 2,100mAh.

"Our latest addition to the Galaxy portfolio, the Galaxy Express 2 has been redesigned to provide a faster and smoother user experience," said Simon Stanford, vice-president of IT & Mobile Division at Samsung UK.

The Galaxy Express 2 LTE will be available in ceramic white in the UK exclusively at Vodafone stores at launch. Other retailers will get the phone at a later date.

Vodafone will also be offering an exclusive rigel blue coloured variant.
