Verizon Wireless has announced that the Samsung ATIV Odyssey - known as the ATIV S in the UK - will be available to customers on 24 January both in-store and online. Pricing for the mid-range Windows 8 handset is set at $49.99 after $50 mail-in rebate and two-year contract.

Specs for the ATIV Odyssey include a 4-inch Super AMOLED display at 800 × 480 resolution, 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 8GB of internal storage, 5-megapixel rear-camera, and LTE.

The Odyssey's launch in the US is notable because it's Samsung's first Windows Phone 8 launch in the country and adds to Verizon's minuscule Windows Phone 8 presence of only three handsets.

Available exclusively to Phones 4U in the UK with a few different specs, the Odyssey is light and large, offering a big battery. It is also one of the few WP8 smartphones that has expandable storage via an micro SD.

The specs here aren't crazy like HTC's Windows Phone 8X, but at $49.99 it may be appealing to those on a budget.
