Customers of O2 can find out their account information and other details without having to contact customer services, thanks to a Twitter initiative launched by the company. Called #TweetServe, the program allows them to tweet @O2 using specific keywords and the information requested will be be sent in return in the form of a direct message.

Keywords that the system recognises include #charges, which will display a customer's current Pay Monthly bill balance or, if they are on Pay & Go, their remaining credit. There are also ways to see how many inclusive minutes, texts or data allowance is left on an account by using the hashtags #minutes, #texts, or #data. Plus, Android, Windows or iOS handset owners can find out if there are updates for their device by tweeting #android, #windows, or #ios.

The last commands currently available are #handsets and #offers. These will display special offers or deals on new phones.

Customers can opt out of a #TweetServe at any time after they've signed up by tweeting #stop to the O2 Twitter account.
