The Nokia Surge, or 6760 as it will be known in the UK, is a new style approach from Nokia featuring a slide out QWERTY keyboard and 2.4-inch QVGA screen.

Grabbing one ahead of the October UK launch, thanks to our US office, the handset is small and dainty but aimed at "the kids".

Other features include 3G connectivity, a rather disappointing 2-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, GPS, stereo Bluetooth, microSD card slot, 128MB of internal memory and the promise of 4.7 hours of talk time, although no Wi-Fi.

Clearly going after the Sidekick market it will run the Nokia S60 interface found on its higher end devices, as well as offering Flash video support for watching videos online (something most phones don't offer) and Facebook on-the-go with the pre-installed JuiceCaster application.

Priced at $79.99 it's going to come in $20 cheaper in the US than that other smartphone you are thinking of.

In the UK it will be arriving in October, and will be available from Carphone Warehouse.
