A patent filing published recently has revealed some futuristic Nokia cameraphone plans. The design puts the camera in a bar mounted sideways on the top of the phone, which is able to swivel.
Similar to the cameras that can be found in the hinge of clamshell phones, this would mean the user could direct the camera to capture photos to face both outwards for everyday images or inwards for self-portraits and video calls.
Practically this would mean the camera elements, and flash could be afforded better protection, so as Nokia states, more advanced sensors and lenses could be used.
Not much more is know about this plan, or even if will come to market, but it has been suggested that it's a future design for a high-end Nseries device, and the camera will be at least 6-megapixels.
