Google's new Nexus 5 smartphone works with the Nokia wireless charging plate, it has been revealed.

Brendan Arndt, the device portfolio manager for Three UK, put one of the new phones on an existing Nokia mat and it charged wirelessly just like many of the Nokia Lumia phones. Both the phone and the mat use the same Qi wireless charging technology, so many thought it could work. Arndt has confirmed that is the case on his Twitter account.

"Whoop Nexus 5 works on my Nokia Wireless Charger," he posted, along with a picture of the device on a yellow mat.

The latest Nokia Wireless Charging Mat costs around £60 and is available from UK stores such as Argos. Other Qi compatible charging mats are available on the market too, some of which costing far less. And Google has launched its own along with the Nexus 5.

However, should you want to upgrade from a Lumia to the new Android 4.4 KitKat handset, at least you know that one of your existing accessories will work just fine.
