Nokia and Microsoft are holding a joint press event in New York on 5 September to open the Nokia World convention and, as previously thought, it is expected to include the public unveiling of the Finnish phone manufacturer's Windows Phone 8 handsets.

Invitations to the event, which starts at 9.30am EST (1.30pm GMT), have been sent to US-based journalists and there's little doubt that they refer to Windows Phone 8. For starters, there are tiles on the full invitation that are of the mini type associated with the new version of the operating system, and the main text strap is one of the larger tiles that will also be made available.

At present, not much is known about Nokia's WP8 handset plans, although yesterday Pocket-lint posted a leaked image of what is purported to be from a prospective 4.3-inch device. Whether or not this will be one of the phones announced remains to be seen.

Additionally, it'll be interesting to see if Nokia is to move across its 808 PureView 41-megapixel camera technology into the Windows Phone 8 line-up.
