Motorola has created a low-cost mobile phone that is powered by a hand crank that charges the rechargeable AA battery within.

Called the Motorola PVOT and created by Designer Andre Minoli the phone has been created to "Bridge the digital and wireless communication gap in developing countries"

It needs just 25 cranks to get enough power to give you 1 minute of usage.

Other features include a 125 x 125 dot matrix LCD and a cool looking keypad.

Details are still sketchy as to whether or not this is merely a concept phone or something that is heading for mass production however we did notice on the designers homepage as being listed as an independent project.

We will keep you posted.
