Motorola will launch a new phone on 5 September that features an edge-to-edge display, according to sources talking to Bloomberg.

"Motorola Mobility’s next mobile phone, due to be unveiled at an event with Verizon Wireless next week, will feature an edge-to-edge screen and work with LTE networks, a person familiar with the product said,"  the news agency reports.

Motorola has scheduled a press conference on Wednesday 5 September in New York City and a second event in London on 18 September. Although the US event didn't reference it, the London event suggests that those in attendance will be taken "to the edge". Pocket-lint will be in attendance at both events.

According to Bloomberg, the phone will be "one of the first full-screen phones in the US, meaning it uses the entire front of the device as a display. The approach maximises the screen viewing space by eliminating the black frames or bezels around the display."

The news agency also says the new version will have LTE connectivity, almost a given in the US considering that the announcement is with Verizon.

In the UK the invitation also says that the phone will be powered by intel's latest Medfield processor.
