LG's upcoming LG G3 tipped to be waterproof and dustproof

LG's upcoming LG G3 smartphone will take on Samsung's Galaxy S5 with waterproof and dustproof functionality, according to ETnews.
This means you won't have to fret if your handset slips off the kitchen counter into the water and dish soap. The publication didn't cite a specific rating for the waterproof and dustproof functionality for the flagship LG G3, but don't expect it to go as deep as the Lifeproof case. Smartphone waterproofing is more for shallower water for a small period of time.

To compare, the Galaxy S5 has an IP67 certification, offering protection in water of up 1 metre and plenty of dust. Sony's Xperia Z2 features IP55 and IP58 certifications, protecting the handset up to 3 metres. LG would be smart to have similar, if not better, ratings.
Past protection against the elements, LG is tipped to include a 5.5-inch display that will allegedly have a 1440 x 2560 resolution. Previous specification rumours for the LG G3 include a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with OIS tech, fingerprint scanner, and LG's Odin mobile chipset.
The LG G3 will be released on 17 May, according to Korean website Asiae.
