LG has sent out an invitation to members of the media inviting them to a 1 May New York event to launch the LG Optimus G Pro in the US. This marks the Pro's first launch outside of Asia, opening up a new market to cater for LG enthusiasts in the crowd.

The Optimus G Pro has got off to a powerful start in Asia, selling more than half a million units in only 40 days. LG is after the Galaxy Note II in the US that offers similar in terms of screen size and specifications.

The folks at LG haven't detailed the specifications for the US version specifically, but given what the international version is packing we can make a fair assessment. You'll find 5.5-inch 1080p HD display, Snapdragon 600 processor, 32GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, Android 4.1, and a 3140 mAh battery.

When we got our first look at the Optimus G Pro in late-February, we found it to be a light device with plenty of power underneath.

LG hasn't detailed a specific release date stateside, but it's safe to assume May at some point. Expect to hear more in regard to pricing and carriers on 1 May. No word on the UK.
