The Huawei Ascend Mate may have a successor coming soon called, no surprise, the Mate 2.

Photos of the Ascend Mate 2 have leaked on China’s Weibo, showing the 6.1-inch phablet with a brushed-metal frame.

Despite the large size, specs look like they will be more middle of the road with the 6.1-inch screen pumping out an unimpressive 720 x 1280 pixels. It will be powered by a Huawei 1.5GHz Kirin 910 chipset like that in the Ascend P6 and backed by 2GB of RAM.

There’ll be a 13-megapixel camera on the rear with an impressive 5-megapixel snapper on the front. These, along with all the other specs, come from a leaked equivalent of the FCC but in China.

The pictures suggest a brushed-metal frame, presuming this is the real thing.

While it’s still early days we’d expect to hear more about the handset either at CES in January or by late February at MWC.
