Google's half-off deal that made the 8GB Nexus 4 priced at $199 didn't last for long. Stock of the 8GB handset ran out over the weekend on Google Play.

As we reported last week, $199 for the handset is a great deal, offering a solid smartphone for a price usually on-contract. You can read our review of the LG Nexus 4 for all of the details.

Some good things come to an end, though. The Verge has reportedly confirmed with Google the 8GB Nexus 4 will not be returning to Google Play. The $199 pricing was seemingly a fire sale to get rid of stock.

Customers seeking a Nexus 4 will instead be turned to the 16GB version, which sports a $249 price tag. We have to wonder if Google's move to quickly get rid of the 8GB version indicates a new Nexus handset is right around the corner.
