BlackBerry makers Research in Motion has announced a new version of its 8800 version with built in Wi-Fi.
The new model, the BlackBerry 8820 smartphone, comes in the same form factor as the company's 8800 model however features Wi-Fi alongside EDGE/GPRS/GSM connectivity.
"The BlackBerry 8820 complements our carrier partners' cellular networks with the added ability to stay connected via Wi-Fi at home, through hotspots and corporate campuses", said Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at RIM.
The model will feature the same functionality at the BlackBerry 8800 including GPS, a microSD/microSDHC Expansion Memory slot and Bluetooth stereo.
The BlackBerry 8820 will be available from select wireless carriers around the world in the coming weeks. AT&T is scheduled to launch the BlackBerry 8820 in the US later this summer. No UK details have yet been announced.
