BlackBerry says there are now more than 100,000 apps in the BB 10 app store as it gears up for its big US launch of the BlackBerry Z10 on 22 March.

Adding over 30,000 apps in the past couple of weeks, the company has also confirmed that big hitters like Amazon Kindle,The Wall Street Journal and OpenTable have come on board with CNN, The Daily Show Headlines, eBay, eMusic, Maxim, MLB at Bat, MTV News, Pageonce, PGA, Rdio, Skype, Soundhound and Viber and will be available for download or purchase in the coming weeks.

BlackBerry has found itself playing catch and fighting for relevance as developers shift their limited resources to making sure iPhone and Android options are covered, something also well known for Microsoft and it's Windows Phone 8 platform.

While the news of the new apps is promising, app fans will acknowledge that the company still has a long way to go to reclaim ground lost in the switchover to the new OS.
