Apple has finally reached 1 billion app downloads from its App Store for the iPhone and iPod touch.
The milestone was reached at around 10pm GMT, a day after the company posted its best quarter in the company's history.
The news means that the company has delivered over 1 billion apps for the iPhone and iPod touch in under 9 months.
Rather than a countdown the company is thanking its users with the simple statement:
"Thanks a billion"
Apple has said that anyone downloading an app before the company reaches the magic number will be in with a chance of winning a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card, an iPod touch, a Time Capsule, and a MacBook Pro although it is yet to announce a winner.
The company has also confirmed that the best apps in the last 9 months are Crash Bandicoot Nitro for paid apps and Facebook in the free offerings. Other apps of note were Flashlite, an app that merely turns your screen white so you can see what you are doing in the dark.
Commentators are now asking how long before the company announces its 2 billionth app?
