There are plenty of gadgets that can be controlled from an app on your phone these days, ranging from heart sensors and drones to toy robots. Ollie and Sphero fall into the toy robot category and as a Christmas treat, Pocket-lint has teamed up with the company that makes these toys to give a few of the Ollie model away.
The Ollie is a tube-shaped robot that comes with two removable rubber tires either side that will provide traction when on for off-road driving, and allow you to drift race on smooth surfaces when you take them off. A durable shell means means you don't have to worry about crashing and the built-in LEDs let you drive at night.
Ollie is controlled from your smartphone or tablet and it will hit speeds of up to 14mph, driven with the joystick while the trick pad allows you to spin, flip, and discover hundreds of combinations. Advanced trick recognition even tells you what trick you've done in real time and Ollie you can customise your look and driving experience with removable tires and hubcaps.
The Sphero is a hard plastic ball with built-in robotic parts that enable you to use it as a rolling toy, as well as an app-controlled one thanks to the gyroscope and accelerometer inside. It is a toy that not only you but your pets will love, and like Ollie, it has a super sturdy shell so it shouldn't break too easy. The Sphero app-controlled ball has even been shot with a shotgun and it survived so give it everything you've got.
