Motorola's Moto G8 Power succeeds the popular G7 Power that launched in 2019 alongside the G7, G7 Plus and G7 Play. The G7 Power is a great budget smartphone, offering a huge battery and a great software experience for a very reasonable price.

The Moto G8 Power has a lot to live up to therefore. We've compared the specifications against each other to help you work out which Moto Power device might be the one for you, or whether you should consider upgrading if you already have the G7 Power.

Both devices feature a fingerprint sensor on the rear within the circular "M" and both devices offer a small bezel at the bottom of the display. The Moto G8 Power ditches the Motorola branding however, allowing for a slightly smaller bezel than the G7 Power.

In terms of dimensions, the Moto G8 Power shreds a few millimetres off its height compared to the G7 Power, but it is slightly thicker. Both are water repellant, but neither offer an official IP rating.

Price

Motorola Moto G7 Power

The Motorola Moto G8 Power is priced at £219.99, which is a little more expensive than the G7 Power started at - £179. You can now get the G7 Power for around the £130 mark however, making it a very tempting device despite its successor.

Conclusion

The Motorola Moto G8 Power makes numerous improvements over its predecessor including a better processor, more RAM, double the storage, a bigger and sharper display, a lot more camera capabilities and a more refined design.

It pretty much improves in every area except the already excellent battery life of the G7 Power, and the software experience will be pretty much identical too.

Should you upgrade from the G7 Power? There are definitely enough improvements to warrant the upgrade on paper. If you're choosing between the G7 Power and the G8 Power then the G8 Power is certainly the winner in terms of specs, but the G7 Power can be found for nearly £100 cheaper now so that decision really comes down to what features are important to you and what budget you have. If it's battery life and battery life only, the G7 Power should still be considered.
