Amazfit has announced the arrival of the T-Rex Pro smartwatch, an upgraded version of the original device that launched last year.

The new model, which was the subject of a substantial leak earlier this month, remains very closely linked to the original T-Rex.

As expected, the T-Rex Pro clocks in at a whopping 47.7mm x 47.7mm x 13.5mm and will weigh 59.4 grams, the same as its predecessor. It'll also feature an identical 1.3-inch AMOLED display, with Corning Gorilla Glass covering the front. Four screws will still appear in the bezel, too, as well as the four buttons are still on the edge of the case.

The only discernable difference is with the finishes. There's no camo version this time around, with grey, green and black colour variations all available, instead.

It's currently available to buy for $179.99 if you're in the US, while those in the UK will have to wait until 31 March and shell out £139.

Instead of a big design departure, this new Pro model focuses on some tweaks to the internal components.

The most notable is the upgraded water resistance, with the Pro bumping the 5ATM rating of the original to 10ATM. This means that it'll now be able to withstand submerged depths of up to 100 metres, rather than - you guessed it - 50 metres.

The heart rate monitoring will also see some changes, now gathering data from a second-gen BioTracker PPG sensor - one that supports SpO2 tracking, and also features on the Amazfit GTS 2 and GTR 2.

A 390mAh battery is under the hood, too, which Amazfit suggests will be able to provide 18 days of life. That's roughly the same as the original smartwatch's 20 days in 'Daily' use, while offering the same 40 hours of continuous GPS tracking and heart rate monitoring.

All in all, this is a welcome upgrade on an original device that gave those on the hunt for a sports watch a cheaper, solid alternative to Garmin, Suunto and others. We don't suspect these new changes will dramatically affect its place in the current sports watch standings, but stay tuned for our full verdict.
