Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel remain our favourite Star Wars games of all time so boy are we excited to find out that we could be playing an all-new release soon.

Way back in 2020, we reported on a claim that EA had a reboot of KOTOR in development, as either a remake or a "sequel of sorts" with elements of both KOTOR 1 and 2 retold as part of its plot.

At the time, it was not known whether Bioware (KOTOR 1) or Obsidian (KOTOR 2) were involved. And after that, we didn't hear anything new. Until today.

Now, we're hearing more rumblings online suggesting that a KOTOR remake is indeed in the words and is being lovingly crafted by Aspyr Media.

Aspyr Media is already responsible for recent ports of popular Star Wars games to more modern gaming devices. That list of games includes Jedi Knight II and Star Wars Episode 1 Racer on Nintendo Switch. The company also crafted additional content to the Mac version of KOTOR II a while back with the restored content mod. So it makes sense for them to be working on a remake of the classic game.

During an interview with the MinnMax podcast, Jason Schreier revealed some information about the development:

This is all that's known so far and nothing has been revealed about how far along the development is or when we can hope to hear more about it. That said, we hope it comes to fruition as KOTOR was one of the best Star Wars games ever made.
