The Witcher: Monster Slayer on mobile is CD Projekt Red's answer to Pokemon Go.

First announced in the summer of 2020, the augmented reality game is based in the world of The Witcher and is now available to play on iOS and Android.

Here's everything you need to know about it.

What is The Witcher: Monster Slayer?

The Witcher: Monster Slayer has been created by dedicated mobile games developer Spokko - one of the CD Projekt family of studios.

Set long before the events in the award-winning RPG console and PC series, it puts you into the leather boots of a witcher at a time when the job title was reasonably unheard of and rare.

Monsters are prevalent throughout the land and, in Pokemon Go style, you must travel the real world to find them. This time though, once found your job is to eliminate them.

The time of day and real-world weather conditions are important, while potions and the like can help in your battles (as in The Witcher games).

The Witcher: Monster Slayer platforms

While some Android phone owners have been able to test the game in beta form previously, The Witcher: Monster Slayer hasn't been available on iOS until now.

You can now download and play it for free via Google Play here or the Apple App Store here.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer screens and gameplay

Much like Pokemon Go and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, The Witcher: Monster Slayer uses GPS tech to track your location. And, like all other AR games of this type, a map shows the location of lmonsters, traders and other items or events close to you.

The game features story-driven quests as you embark on your adventure, plus trophies to collect from each monster you slay.

You can improve your weaponry and armour throughout the game, to help you take on more difficult monsters. While your witcher skills can be boosted as you progress. Potions could make a big difference to your success rate too.

Those who log into the game before 11.59pm CEST 28 July 2021 will get the Kaer Morhen Steel Sword in their inventory. This increases XP earned from killing monsters by 10 per cent.
