Quite some time ago now, in the run-up to Cyberpunk's release, CD Projekt Red said it was working on a next-gen upgrade for its venerable RPG The Witcher 3, so that owners of the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S could play it again or for the first time with improved performance.

That upgrade was originally being developed externally, by Saber Interactive, which is the same studio that worked such magic on the game's Switch port. It was previously slated for a late-2021 release but then pushed back to Q2 2022 before getting hit with a further delay in April 2022.

The company has now taken to Twitter to make an announcement that will assuage fears that the game was in limbo, confirming that it will release in Q4 of 2022, meaning between 1 October and the end of the year.

That wording is a little interesting, though, given that it says the release date is still "planned" rather than simply announcing it as final, so it's not entirely impossible that we could yet hear of another small delay, if we're being pessimistic.

Still, if all goes well then we'll be looking forward to diving back into the morally murky world of Geralt and his companions for another play-through of one of the greatest RPGs ever released.
