Tech toy brand VTech has often looked to adult gadget trends for inspiration and the latest to get its attention is the action cam market, like the GoPros of this world.

The Kidizoom Action Cam is designed for children from five-years and up and, like the adult variants, can be fixed to bikes and skateboards through a separate mount. A waterproof case is also available for it and the camera itself is extremely robust – certainly capable of taking a bashing.

Pocket-lint got to see one in “action” briefly during the London Toy Fair and although we're not sure of the resolution of the sensor, the rear screen seems detailed enough for kids to get cracking shots and video.

There is 128MB of storage on board, so children can get cracking with the cam straight away, but there is also a microSD card slot for expansion. The waterproof case means the camera can also be used underwater, and there is a timelapse option to make more arty clips.

The camera also features games and effects to overlay on shots and it comes with a rechargeable battery inside.

VTech will release it to the world in the next few months – quoting Q1. It will retail for a penny shy of £50.
