Microsoft entered its new financial year recently and has begun detailing plans for 2013 and FY 2014 at its Worldwide Partner Conference in Texas.

The Worldwide Partner Conference, also known as WPC, is an annual conference for Microsoft's partner community. Partners and guests can attend to learn about Microsoft’s roadmap for the upcoming financial year, and they can listen to sessions and keynote addresses from Microsoft executives.

Kevin Turner, Microsoft's chief operating officer, presented at the conference this week. During his keynote the executive gave a brief glimpse at upcoming updates for the company's consumer businesses. Microsoft apparently plans to update both the Surface RT and Surface Pro, as seen in the presentation slide atop. This would indicate that two refreshed models would release sometime in 2013 or early 2014.

Bloomberg reported in recent weeks that Microsoft would update its Surface RT with a Qualcomm processor in 2013. The Verge followed-up to this report and claimed Microsoft tested Windows RT 8.1 Surface devices with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 processor. This particular chip features integrated LTE connectivity - thus the Surface could soon offer mobile broadband support.

Microsoft's roadmap slide also includes new accessories and new accessory colours for the Surface. While engaging in a Reddit AMA last month, a Microsoft team suggested upcoming tablet covers would be able to charge the Surface. The team also hinted at future peripherals that could "click in and do more".
