Toshiba has announced its first Chromebook, the cunningly titled Toshiba Chromebook, which packs a 13.3-inch 1366 x 768 display, Intel Celeron ULT "Bay Trail" processor and 20.2mm waistline.

It sports Chrome OS, and most of the included applications require an internet connection - much like all other Chromebooks - but there are also offline apps that allow you to work when there's no signal. Both Google Docs and Gmail have offline modes.

An HD webcam, stereo speakers and full-size keyboard are present, as is an HDMI socket for connection to an external TV or display. Local storage is provided through a 16GB solid state drive, while 100GB of free cloud storage on Google Drive is also included.

Other specifications include 2GB of RAM, battery life of up to nine hours, two USB 3.0 ports and an SD card slot. There are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless connectivity options.

The Toshiba Chromebook has a "light gold" (silver) plastic case with a weight of 1.5kg.

It will be £249 on release in February and Pocket-lint was told that should it prove successful there is every likelihood Toshiba will look to introduce further Chromebooks in different sizes.
