Back in September, over in Berlin at IFA, Toshiba announced its star player in the new Ultrabook range: the Toshiba Portégé Z830. And now the Japanese company has announced the launch details for the UK.

The Portégé Z830 will arrive, along with its Satellite Z830 brethren, at the end of November priced from £899. From looking at the specs the two machines are practically identical, save for a different version of Windows 7, and the Portégé also packs EasyGuard so it's capable of "withstanding prolonged use in a variety of working conditions, as well as knocks and bumps in day-to-day life".

The Ultrabook weighs in at just 1.12kg and is only 15.9mm thick at its thickest point and 8.9mm thick at its thinnest - so it's a MacBook Air rival and some.

It has a 13.3-inch display (1366x768) and packs the latest 2nd generation Intel Sandy Bridge chips - either i3 or i5, along with 4-6GB of RAM and Intel HD Graphics 3000.

It also has a 128GB SSD and has a very instant-on sounding "Hi-Speed Start Technology". Battery life is 8 hours and there's Dolby Advanced Audio 2 packed in as well. Connectivity options include USB 3.0, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 and there's a 1.3-megapixel webcam for video calling.

Out at the end of this month, the Toshiba Portégé Z830 costs £899 - £1,099, the Satellite Z830 is priced up at £899 - £999.
