Toshiba announced its Satellite T100 series of low-cost, lightweight notebooks back in September, but at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, we were able to get hands-on with the range - specifically the T135 - which is a 13-inch model destined for the US market.

The idea behind these machines is to match the size and price of the larger end of the netbook market, but imbue it with considerably more power. As such, the machines all carry ULV processors from Intel, and can cope with HD video - which it can push out through an HDMI port on the side.

We got pictures of the 13-inch model, but there's also the 11-inch T115. Battery life is impressive on both - claimed at 7.5 hours for the 13-inch and 9 hours on the 11-incher - and pricing will differ depending on configuration but runs to about $700 or so for the T135 but just $450 or so on the T115.

Both models are available now.
