Razer gaming laptops are rare creatures in the UK, so when Pocket-lint caught a glimpse of the latest superthin Razer Blade Pro at a gaming event ahead of this year's Computex we jumped at the change to have a play.

With a 17.3-inch 1080p LED display, the Razer Blade Pro takes on that typically large screen form factor, but trims the fat to be one of the slimmest, most stylish gaming laptops we've seen. It's as portable as they come, measuring less than 23mm deep when the top is shut.

But the slim form does come at various costs. And we don't just mean the $2,500 (£1,630) price for the 256GB SSD option. No, it's the fan noise that's most disappointing as it's clearly audible. Slap on some headphones and you may not care, but compared to its fatter competitors the Blade bleeds out the unwanted audio. Furthermore the chassis is a sucker for fingerprints - it's hard to keep it looking pristine when every touch mars the body and trackpad.

Style is at the forefront of this Razer. In addition to the twisted green snake emblem on the lid, the layout is specifically tailored for gamers. The trackpad doubles as an LCD display and has been pushed to the right-hand side, in front of 10 programmable macro keys. Cooler yet is that each key has an LCD behind it to display specific symbols depending on the game in play, assuming compatibility with the title.

Battlefield 3 was our shoot-'em-up of choice which, thanks to the latest fourth-gen Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM and beefy Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M graphics - complete with its own 2GB of GDDR5 - was running super smooth.

Will we see the Razer Blade Pro appear in the UK market this year is one big question? Apparently not - it's available for pre-order in the US and Canada only. A shame as it's one hot looking bit of gaming kit that we'd like to see more of on Brit shores.
