3Dconnexion, a company that makes 3D mice for graphics users and gamers has announced their latest "3D mouse" - the SpacePilot Pro.

Designed for "the rigorous demands of design engineers working in powerful 3D applications" according to the Logitech owned company the new offering will "deliver advanced control of 3D models, easier access to the power of professional 3D applications, fewer interruptions in the design workflow, and superior comfort".

The SpacePilot Pro features a new colour LCD Workflow Assistant, second-generation "QuickView Navigation" technology, "Intelligent Function" keys, and an improved design for enhanced comfort and control.

The idea is that users can move objects such as 3D models or Google's Earth software in all three dimensions simultaneously, using 6-degrees-of-freedom sensor technology.

By gently lifting, pressing and turning the controller cap, design engineers can easily pan, zoom and rotate without stopping to select commands.

However the "second mouse" isn't going to be for everyone, it will set you back $499.

Those looking for a more affordable option can opt for the SpaceNavigator for $99 and SpaceNavigator for Notebooks for $129.

Here in the UK the unit will cost £399.99 and be available from professional CAD resellers and major online resellers.
