Michael Dell has announced an innovative concept design for what he believes will be the next big thing in laptop computing at CES in Las Vegas.

Codenamed Greenland, the 20-inch widescreen (1920x1200) laptop is designed to be used around the home and will come with a separate keyboard, connected via Bluetooth and a top-loading DVD drive.

Boasting a home entertainment focus, the monitor houses eight speakers and a subwoofer as well as being tilt and height adjustable.

The model, which will be a part of its XPS range also features a 1.3 megapixel digital camera on board.

Because of the size of the device, Dell has opted for a leatherette feel to the case and the monitor stand innovatively turns into the handle.

“The XPS mobile is the first of many concept designs we are working on”, Michael Dell told Pocket-lint at a Q&A session. “It shows that we are thinking about the future rather than just the now”.

Although no official release date has been set for the new laptop, a spokeswomen for Dell expected it to be available in the UK sometime this year.
