Dell has announced that it will be shipping all of its Dimension Desktop and Inspiron Notebook Lines with Microsoft's Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 pre installed.

"The launch of Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 on Dell PCs underscores Dell's commitment and leadership in extending the capabilities of home computers for productivity and entertainment", said Kristoffer Valiharju, Software Manager, Consumer, Dell EMEA. "Consumers want to easily create, use, manage and share digital media content on their PC and the Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 platform will help them achieve this".

Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 will be available on the following Dimension desktop products: Dimension 3100, 5150, 5150c, 9100, 9150 and XPS 600 and the following Inspiron notebook products: 6000, 9300, XPS M170.

Meanwhile in other Dell news, the PC company has warned that sales have missed its forecasts amid weaker demand in the US and UK.

Sales were $13.9bn (£9.6bn) in the three months to the end of September, compared with a forecast of $14.10bn.

Dell, a tech industry bellwether, also said it would take a charge of $450m related to fixing faulty computers.
