Asus originally announced its superslim Zenbook UX305 during the IFA consumer trade show in Berlin last September, but although a Christmas release date was touted at the time, it failed to hit the streets in 2014.

Instead, the world's slimmest 13.3-inch laptop is an early-2015 model, with Asus now revealing that it will soon be available in PC World/Currys and John Lewis, priced at £649.99.

The Zenbook UX305 ultrabook features an all aluminium chassis and measures just 12.3mm thick. It follows the usual aesthetic cues found on previous Zenbook models, such as a tapered wedge design.

Weighing 1.2kg, the new model is powered by an Intel Core M processor, has that previously mentioned 13.3-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and features a 128GB solid state disk drive.

Those specs are a tad different to the model announced during IFA, which had a higher resolution display, but every effort has been made to keep the laptop affordable - especially up against a MacBook Air or other equivalent.

The IFA models were displayed in two colours, which included a silky-smooth Ceramic Alloy shade that will be soft to the touch, but the UK gets just the version in Obsidian Stone with Zenbook's signature spun-metal finish.
