Apple has, as expected, rolled out a 13-inch version of its Retina display-touting MacBook Pro. Along with a new display, the new laptop also has more powerful internals and a few other clever design tweaks over its normal 13-inch cousin.
So how does it shape up? Below are all the MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina display specifications and details.
Screen: 2560 x 1600 Retina display
As screen resolution goes, the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro is no slouch. In fact the resolution is the whole talking point of the product. At 2560 x 1600 pixels, you get a huge 4,096,000 pixels to play with. That's 227ppi.
Apple has also done some work on the screen’s technology. So it has 29 per cent higher contrast ratio, a 75 per cent reduced reflection with 300 nits of brightness.
Dimensions: 19mm thick
Losing the disc drive means the 13-inch MacBook Pro comes up much smaller than the standard 13-inch model, 20 per cent smaller in fact. For those who want something portable, the 1.9 x 31.4 x 21.9cm 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display is certainly compact.
The smaller MacBook Pro is also lighter at just 1.62kg, compared to the standard 13-inch model's 2.6kg.
Connectivity: Thunderbolt, USB 3.0, HDMI, SD card reader, headphone jack
Connectivity on the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is fairly comprehensive. On either side of the computer is a USB 3.0 port, along with headphone jack, HDMI port, SD card reader and a pair of Thunderbolt ports.
Apple has also brought MagSafe 2 to the computer, just like the charging unit on the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro.
Processor and RAM: Intel i5 and up, Ivy Bridge, 8GB RAM
The latest generation of Intel processors are inside the 13-inch Retina display MacBook Pro. This means Intel's HD 4000 graphics are also included, which should help keep video and some games running smoothly. No dedicated graphics card though like the 15-inch model which is a shame.
Storage: 128GB, 256GB SSD
Like the MacBook Air and 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro, things are all SSD here. This translates to fast boot times and a silky smooth OS X experience.
Camera: FaceTime HD 720p capable
On the front of the laptop is a 720p-capable FaceTime HD camera, which will let you do things such as use HD Skype chat and high-definition FaceTime calls with the iPhone.
Audio: Stereo speakers
Despite its size, Apple is adamant the new 13-inch Retina display MacBook Pro has improved audio over previous models. Stereo speakers should keep you satisfied in the music department.
Battery: Up to 7 hours wireless web, 30 days standby
Efficient Ivy Bridge chips and the lack of a dedicated graphics card should ensure the MacBook Pro keeps up to its battery promises. SSD also equates to 30 days of standby.
Price: £1,449 for base model
At just shy of £1,500, the MacBook isn't cheap, but its the most affordable way right now into Apple's MacBook Retina line up. For this you get a 2.5GHz i5 processor and a 128GB SSD, pay £1,699 and this goes up to 256GB.
