Apple has hinted that its "instant-on" function, making its debut on the two latest MacBook Air notebooks, will be coming to other models in the company's laptop range.

The new feature allows the 11.6- or 13.3-inch MacBook Airs to stay in standby mode for a whopping 30 days before losing their charge:

"We see many users using the sleep mode in the current range", a spokesperson for the company told Pocket-lint, when speaking about the new tech.

So, with that in mind, we asked whether there was anything to stop the instant-on feature being implemented on other Apple laptops in the current range.

"No", was the answer. Apple did, however, go on to detail that it wasn't a software feature within the operating system, but a hardware one based on the use of the flash storage.

But, what about other models within the current range of MacBook Pro models that feature SSD storage?

This time, rather than simply being ejected from the room, we got a "no comment" while our spokesperson pointed at a sign saying that the MacBook Air was the start of a new generation of Macs that merge the iPad and the laptop together.

Therefore, while that's not a confirmed 100 per cent "yes", we can safely say that it is possible for the instant-on feature to be implemented on other Apple laptops, as long as they feature SSD storage. Certainly, we got the indication that Apple is seriously considering an "always-on" computer that you'll never need to turn off.
