Western Digital has announced the availability of what it says is the industry's highest-capacity available 2.5-inch drive offering a 1 terabyte capacity.

The WD Scorpio Blue SATA 2.5-inch hard drive will see users of devices containing the internal drive get a hefty 1TB of storage, with a 750GB WD Scorpio Blue model also available.

With a 12.5mm form factor, the drives will likely see use by manufacturers in portable storage solutions, "select" notebooks and possibly small form factor desktop PCs.

Both WD Scorpio Blues offer a 3 gigabits per second transfer rate, are shock resistant, claim lower power consumption and WD's WhisperDrive tech that promises quiet operation.

Available now for manufacturers to start sticking in their equipment, the 1TB version costs 205 euros while the 750GB version is 140 euros.
