LaCie Blade Runner: Philippe Starck hard drive to keep Deckard happy

LaCie has teamed up with designer Philippe Starck to launch the limited-edition Blade Runner hard drive.

With only 9,999 produced, the LaCie Blade Runner is custom built and designed to be an artistic piece rather than a bland box hidden under a desk. 

"In the Blade Runner, the warm interior electronics are encased in a mystifying shell, and the blades are the radiator that cools it down," says Philippe Starck of his creation. "The suspension gives space for air to circulate around the hard drive, and the metal material increases the temperature conduction." 

Thinking practically, the Philippe Starck logo is the power button and LED backlit to indicate drive activity. It also has a USB 3.0 connection and 4TB of storage on offer, with 10GB of Wuala Secure Cloud Storage and back-up software. 

The LaCie Blade Runner can be yours for $299 online and from selected retailers, but as we said, it's limited edition.

We're not sure it has anything to do with the movie adaption of Philip K Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? We're sure that Deckard would design a hard drive that looked like an Owl or an Ostrich or something.
