Seagate has added a humongous 3TB model to its GoFlex Desk external drive range - and has claimed this is a world's first.

We told you last month how Seagate is working on an internal 3TB drive as well, so it seems the company is serious about storage.

The 3TB FreeAgent GoFlex Desk is USB 2.0 plug-and-play compatible and works with Widows XP, Vista and 7 as well as Mac OS X 10.4.9 or higher. It will also work with USB 3.0 or Firewire 800 using an additional adaptor.

It comes with automatic back up software as well as encryption programs to keep all your data nice and safe.

To put 3TB into perspective, it could store over 12,000 copies of the new Eminem album in 320kbps MP3 format, 3603 copies of a Dr Who episode in HD from the BBC iPlayer, or, if you're a sadomasochist (or German) you could store 808 copies of the full England v Germany coverage from the BBC in HD.

It'll cost you $249.99, and you can get one from Seagate's online store.
