Amazon has scrapped plans to remove Visa credit cards as a payment option.

It had previously announced that UK customers would no longer be able to use Visa credit cards on its online store from 19 January 2022.

However, in an email sent to affected customers, it has revealed that it is working with Visa on a "potential solution" and will continue to accept affected cards.

"The expected change regarding the use of Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk will no longer take place on January 19," it said.

"We are working closely with Visa on a potential solution that will enable customers to continue using their Visa credit cards on Amazon.co.uk. Should we make any changes related to Visa credit cards, we will give you advance notice. Until then, you can continue to use Visa credit cards, debit cards, Mastercard, American Express, and Eurocard as you do today."

The original band came after Amazon complained about the "high fees Visa charges for processing credit card transactions".

It said at the time: "We know this may be inconvenient, and we’re here to help you through this transition so you can continue enjoying Amazon’s low prices and wide selection."

A Visa spokesperson replied that the company was continuing to communicate with Amazon to avoid the ban. Those talks have seemingly paid off.
