Wireless earphones were once large and power consuming, but now with Bluetooth 4.0 LE, and some clever design they're finally worth owning.  Beats has thrown its set out there with the Powerbeats2 Wireless.

The Powerbeats2 Wireless earphones offer the usual bass-pounding power expected from Beats but with an in-ear design that doesn't require plugging in. There is one cable holding the two buds together around your neck, and that's it.

The earphones are IPX4 sweat and water resistant with a tight over-ear fit making them ideal for sport. Thanks to the lack of cables they won't tangle when thrown in a bag. They also come with buttons for easy track skipping and pausing while training. Plus there's a microphone built-in so calls can be taken and made while out and about, hands-free.

The battery, Beats says, will deliver 6-hours of playback over the Bluetooth connection. Then a quick 15-minute burst of charge will boost power back up for another hour of play.

The Beats Powerbeats2 Wireless earphones are available in black, red and white for £170 later this month.
