Gears of War fans will be able to watch their favourite gaming series on the big screen in the future, as plans have been uncovered to turn the game into a film trilogy.
Die Hard 4.0 director Len Wiseman will be at the helm, and has uncovered some of his ideas for them.
"The hope is that we're wanting to do three movies and really cover the bases on everything. Basically a harder edged Lord Of The Rings", said Wiseman.
"It's going to be much more [on the] science fiction side of it than the creature side of it. I've always been much more of a sci-fi action fan than a horror fan".
Wiseman said his interest in turning the series into films started when he chose Gears of War to appear during a scene in Die Hard 4.0.
"I just really connected with it; the design of it the world, the whole thing", he said. "So I actually bought an Xbox 360 to start researching what it was".
Stuart Beattie, the writer behind films such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Collateral will be doing the script for the film, and to ensure the movies don't go wandering off on some crazy angle, the whole project will be overseen by Gears creative director Cliff Bleszinski.
As for the money for the film, half of it has been coughed up by Legendary Pictures of 300 and The Watchmen fame, and its production company Temple Hill Entertainment has predicted a release sometime next year.
No famous A-listers have been linked to the project as yet - we'll keep you posted.
