A Microsoft Xbox One Media Remote control has been unveiled for a release next month.

The remote, which has appeared on Larry Hryb's Major Nelson blog, will allow users to control Blu-ray and streaming movies from the comfort of the couch without the need for a gaming controller.

While a controller for a voice activated console might seem counter intuitive, it does appear to be a well made back-up if nothing else. The remote offers a OneGuide button for quick access to favourite shows and movies via the Xbox program guide. The keys illuminate in the dark and it also doubles as a TV controller thanks to the Kinect forwarding the IR blasted control requests.

The Xbox One Media Remote will go on sale worldwide this March for $25.
