Project Spark, the game development tool that is in itself a game, is now open for sign-ups. That means you can register your interest to be one of the first to try it out.

The global beta version is tipped to become available in January, and the team behind it is inviting those running Windows 8.1 to give it a try when it launches.

The game was first shown in depth at E3 in June, when it wowed games audiences and critics alike with its potential. Not only can you create games of almost any genre using the innovative creation tool, you can also unlock new features and in-game items by fulfilling goals, effectively turning the creation aspects into a game itself.

Microsoft will hope that the public beta will fill its databases with off-the-shelf Project Spark games for Xbox One users to play on its console release.

The game will be a free digital download when ready and will thrive only through the attraction of a large online community of creators and players alike.

You can sign up for the beta at now.
