It looks like you might get to play PUBG on your PS4 this Christmas.
The world online exploded into battle royale madness earlier year, with the launch of a couple of huge games, including Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (also known as PUBG). PUBG has been an Xbox exclusive on console for the past year, but considering its one-year anniversary on Xbox One is fast approaching, it seems likely the exclusivity deal will soon expire.
And, in recent weeks, there has been evidence to suggest the game might land for PS4 consoles before the year is out. Here's what we know.
When will PUBG come to PS4?
- December 2018 release date speculated
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is definitely coming to PS4, if the the PS4 game database is to be believed. A user on the PSNProfiles forum recently noticed that information about PUBG was on Sony's servers, including images and a content ID code for the North American and European versions.
Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad also claimed on the forum ResetEra that the game would be out for PS4 in December.
Keep in mind PUBG was first introduced to the Xbox One Preview program in December 2017, and if Microsoft's console exclusivity deal is only for a year, a December 2018 release date does seem likely. If you need more proof than that, the Korean Game Rating Board, which was also a source for several Fortnite Nintendo Switch leaks, recently posted a rating for the PS4 version of PUBG before abruptly removing the webpage.
As of now, PUBG Corporation and publisher Bluehole have not announced the game for platforms other than PC and Xbox One. But Bluehole was reportedly in talks with Sony regarding a PS4 version as early as last October. An iOS and Android version called PUBG Mobile is also available.
Will PUBG on PS4 bring any changes?
- No word on new features
Again, there are a lot of unknowns right now. The PUBG Mobile game provides the same gameplay elements as the PC and Xbox game, but it uses on-screen controls. These can be customised for a number of different layouts and elements to suit the size of your device or preferences. We're not sure what PUBG Corporation would add to the PS4 version of PUBG to make it standout, but we will keep you posted as we learn more.
Will PS4 allow PUBG crossplay?
- Crossplay seems likely
It's unclear right now. PUBG is available on PC and mobile, and it has some crossplay features. It's also worth noting Sony recently allowed crossplay for Fortnite, so it'll be interesting to see if the same thing happens with PUBG, allowing PS4 gamers to play with folks on other systems.

How much will PUBG on PS4 cost?
- Expect a £25 price tag
Unlike Fortnite, it is unlikely that PUBG will be free to play on PS4. It costs around £25 on Xbox One, so expect similar for PlayStation.
