Rockstar has announced that the eagerly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 has been delayed. It will no longer be available from this spring and has been pushed back to the autumn instead.

Better news is that we now have a nailed down, confirmed release date of 26 October 2018.

Rockstar has also released a stack of new screengrabs to whet our appetite.

"We apologise to everyone disappointed by this delay. While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish," said Rockstar in a statement.

"We sincerely thank you for your patience and hope that when you get to play the game, you will agree the wait will have been worth it."

This is actually the second major delay for the game - originally having been planned for a "fall 2017" release but then switched to "spring 2018".

It's also par for the company. GTA V was heavily delayed too on its initial release for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. But let's face it, that particular game didn't turn out bad now, did it?

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be available on PS4 and Xbox One when it does finally arrive.
