Sony's brand new PS3 Slim went on sale in the UK on 1 September, and although exact figures have not yet been revealed, the console's retail debut appears to have been a success.

GfK Chart-Track has revealed to Pocket-lint that PS3 unit hardware sell-through has seen an 11-fold increase (also quoted as around 999%) from what the PS3 was selling the previous week.

Suggesting that people have been waiting for PS3 Slim, a £249 version of Sony's games platform, the PS3 became "the lead hardware" format for the week it was released, the first time since early 2008.

The slimmer PS3 has also outsold the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii, although the Xbox 360 is up 29% over the same time period following Microsoft's price cut for its high end model in the range.
